Haven't read any others in the series but found it an enjoyable read. I got a bit annoyed by the excessively detailed descriptions of roads and traffic but realised by the end that the A9 was essentially a "character" in the story. The ending/solution was a bit too perfect and far fetched for me, but I still liked the book overall

Good guys, bad guys. Clear lines of right and wrong, and the good guy always wins. Irascible, broken and somehow utterly lovable Rebus keeps fighting the good fight. This is exactly what I needed right now.

He's Back! Thank heaven. I've missed him terribly. And I was only sorry that Rebus didn't shoot Malcolm Fox. Oh well. Next time.
Great plot, same old bad guys, with a new twist. Rebus takes care of them all. Love it!

Rebus returns from retirement to help with cold cases, one of which gets hot once he gets involved. Another enjoyable installment in the series.

This was OK, but I guess I'm just not a fan of boozy retired detectives, even if they are traveling some familiar and not-so-familiar Scottish landscapes.

I found out a couple of tags from earlier in the series that I'd rather not know, but otherwise a great read. Interesting way to bring two detectives from two series together.

Good to have John Rebus back, as cranky, obstinate, hard-drinking as ever.

Got to say that I was disappointed because the ending felt too much like this was the first of a two-parter. There is unfinished business and I didn't feel like Rebus had done a very thorough job!
