Really preachy, not great writing, and the philosophy he's trying to communicate could've been done in 200 less pages than the end result. Not a horrible idea he's trying to communicate but his method of delivery is terrible.

Awesome. This book took a so many half-forrmed ideas and vaguely perceived ideas that I've thought about and have seen floating around, and put them all into an overall picture that gives an awesome perspective on human culture, history, and our place in nature.

The book wasn't awful but I kind of hated the idea that Ishmael was a gorilla. It was just a weird concept to me.

Interesting but not entirely convincing. Some argument contain implicit assumptions that are not wholly justified and it weakens the book’s thesis as a whole. Generally though, the socratic style adopted by the author is interesting and emulates the classic dialogues well enough. However, the book failed to capture my attention for most of the time as the style got to a point where it was too “lecture-like”. I will admit that the bible being written through the POV of pastoralists rather than agriculturalists is cool, even though I doubt archaeological evidence confirms this idea. 3/5.

It’s one of the first times I’ve finished a book with a desire not for learning about the topic but for deepening my critical thinking. Ishmael, the telepathic enlightened gorilla, does such a wonderful job at encouraging the critical analysis of huge ideas and themes of humankind and evolution that I could not put the book down throughout this reading experience. Highly recommend!

Engaging format, but only vaguely interesting content. Permaculture strikes me as a more vital way to revolutionizing food production than anarcho-primitivism that Quinn basically is promoting.
