Not sure how to feel about this book. The author has created a way to argue with himself in the form of a story so as to get his point across. I found myself disagreeing with the spins he put on things and I feel many of the premises are brought forward as foregone conclusions which of course they are not. That said it is worth reading even if just to gain perspective.

Ishmael is right, but it’s unfortunately unfeasible.

really fun to reread this  14 years later. wonderful anticapitalist deprogramming rhetoric written so plainly it’s hard to argue with

What about a perspective of a gorilla following a Socratic dialogue method to get our not-so-contemporary creation myth revealed? The distance with our own Homo Sapiens’ one seems quintessential to draw out the whole picture… i.e. our own cultural idealism (and how we are blindly fulfilling its goals). Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit is thought-provoking and convincing - although the morale of the story is overtly known. To be reread very soon!

jesus..... i’m like a child saying we live in a society unironically
