I feel like this was definitely a filler volume and while I still really enjoy the characters overall, I didn't so much enjoy the sports competition story line and want more depth to the overall plot.

Okay I am LOVING the sports festival arc. I'm definitely going to keep reading! The characters are getting easier to remember- but I'm still a little lost sometimes lol- but this was much better than the previous two books. The battle scenes, especially at the beginning when the cliffhanger from the end of book two and the USJ battle was being wrapped up, are still a little clogged and confusing, but it's getting better. And I'm glad that portion was finished, since I was getting bored of it lol. And then when Aizawa announced they were having a festival, my first reaction was the same as Izuku's: That's so ordinary?!

But it's pretty awesome so far. I'm also really interested by this Todoroki kid- his quirk is the best by far in my opinion. I kinda want more from the characters though. I get that it's a manga so we don't get as much prose to see into their heads, but I just wanted to know more about their motivations and thoughts? It all seems very basic so far- surely they have more nuance than just fitting into stereotypes.

And Izuku is... getting more of a personality? I honestly realized while reading this that he'd never properly had a life or any interests or like literally anything but becoming a hero and wanting a quirk and blah blah lol. Please get some hobbies, kid. But I am glad he's becoming more confident!
Spoiler And that he won the obstacle course like that at the very end. YES!

I really hope these books continue to be as good as this one! I also started watching the anime, which is pretty much word for word and scene for scene from the manga. I'm really liking it, though, and it's a lot cooler to watch the fight scenes than read them- except for those full-page SMASHES that All Might and- rarely- Izuku do because those look seriously awesome in book format lol.
