this is my own fault but i was missing a LOT of nuance bc i have never read jane eyre. other than the nuance this was a lot of white women whining about how slavery affected them???? not sure what this jane eyre fanfic was really trying to do…. i know it’s supposed to be giving bertha (antoinette) more depth, but she doesn’t really have depth in this book, just backstory.

A validation that Rochester is forever a dick, and imperialism destroys people.

Hooooo boy, I read this as apart of an English University course and I was not disappointed. Overall it's a decent book on its own, but when it's paired and compared with Jane Eyre and pulled apart in a more analytical way... I think I loved it even more. I think a lot of the fun was taken out of it, but I also feel like I learned a lot while reading and analyzing it.
