More Snail than I Expected
A simple quick read about a woman finding hope and purpose watching a snail while recovering from a lengthy, paralyzing illness.
I related to aspects of the story. I too am in my early 30s. In my late 20s I pulled my lower back for the first time and could barely walk. By 32 I had two episodes in which I was no longer able to sit up without risking collapse. Obviously I had a different, temporary experience. I still felt her descriptions of being trapped, of just wanting to look out a window or lift an arm.
A bit too much of the book was copied from nature books. Some descriptions were fascinating, others dragged on weren't compelling to the storytelling.

Slow paced, but relaxing and enjoyable. If you're not a snail fan, maybe pass.

This is one of those books that makes you feel calm and relaxed when reading it. Even though not everything in it goes smoothly (it is largely about chronic illness), the slowness and stillness of everything that happens soothed me. Plus, the small snail illustrations throughout were lovely.
