Agatha Christie is always a save go-to though I found 'Elephants Can Remember' a little too straight forward and predictable.
Hercule Poirot is asked to look into the double suicide of a couple which happened 12 years ago. And while facts are there in the police files, it is the stories that the "elephants" tell which make the case everything but what it appears on the surface.

Naturally it's exciting to discover, as a lifelong Christie fan, that there are books by her I haven't read yet - but... I liked the idea here, the characters and development are classic Christie; the writing, however, is incredibly sloppy. Repetition, endless dialog with NO connecting text, flat-out mistakes... and the elephant theme is so heavy-handed I was sick of it by the middle of the book. The feeling I got was that she had a good idea, but either got bored or lost interest in wrestling with the actual writing of it. It was fun reading a "new" (to me) Christie, but also a disapointment. Still, three stars because I thought the basic idea was interesting, even haunting.
Was originally assigned this book in grade 5 for a book report; it was my first introduction to Agatha Christie. This was probably not the best place to start with her. It took me years to pick up another one of her novels. Unfortunately this re-read did not improve my impression. I still did not like this mystery.

finished my first ever Christie book last night and really enjoyed it.
it's about a case of a double suicide of a happily married couple, many years ago. No one bore witness to it according to the evidence so the case was closed, claiming the event as an accident or a suicide pact, however now their children are old enough to get intrigued and unsolve the mystery behind the suspicious deaths of their parents and with the help of the famous belgian detective Hercule Poirot, they reach the bottom of this mystery.
i found the ending sort of a bit flat but i was really intrigued until the very end so I'll give it that. and it surely won't be my last Christie as according to goodreads' reviews, she has done even better work. can't wait to explore more of that.

Poirot's objective in this book is to uncover the truth of a crime that happened in the past. By asking questions and using his usual process of thinking, Poirot discovers the truth in the crime.
While not predictable from the beginning, I found this book to be the only one of Christie's that I've read so far that I've been able to guess the ending of. Still a good mystery and the answers that everyone seek are not what they expect.

Enjoyable but a little too long. Lot of unnecessary chapters and banter that do nothing for the story. Not the best Christie novel.
