This book bored me to death. The ending was pretty good but it was still annoying that Poirot just got everyone together at the crime scene and told them what happened. There was nothing very interesting or exciting in this book leading up to that reveal. I guess I can’t blame Agatha Christie since she was 80.

not my favorite by Agatha Christie and not a very exciting twist, but still enjoyable to read.

Hercule Poirot is called upon to investigate what is considered to be a suicide pact from more than 10 years earlier. Can he figure out the facts after this many years? And who shot first?

Two stars because I don't remember the details.

I GUESSED IT OMG I NEVER GUESS IT YAY

I must probably be happy now,but I am not,I am so sad, why?? Because,I was ready to be wowed. But this book failed to do that! Never have I read a Poirot mystery, which I could see what had happened how and why sooner than Poirot! It was my wish to be able to outsmart him,but I was wrong.I want him to be one step ahead of me,not me ahead of him! That's so sad!!
I should have read a better known novel by Agatha Christie, not this one! But I don't give up on her!

Slowly but surely I am making my way through these Agatha Christie novels. This one is about a murder in the past of Mrs. Oliver's goddaughter when both her parents died in an apparent murder suicide. Mrs Oliver's goddaughter possible future mother-in-law wants to know whether it was the father who killed the mother or the other way around. Poirot and Mrs Oliver get involved, not only to help her goddaughter get her questions answered, but also to find out why the mother-in-law wanted to know such an odd question.

I did really enjoy this one and I'm not sure why I left it so late to read. I listened to this on audiobook and, as always, I really enjoyed it in this format. It was a very typical Agatha Christie mystery, despite it being a cold case from years earlier. I enjoyed how Mrs Oliver and Poirot worked together again and how their methods differered so much. I would say that I did manage to guess part of the mystery by about halfway through the book though I don't know whether the clues were just a little more obvious than normal, or whether because I've been reading so many Christie novels that I have an idea about which plot points she likes to use. Howvever, I still wanted to finish the book even with mostly guessing the killer.

3.5 stars!

This is not a good book. It's one of the worst Christies I've read. There have been ones I enjoyed less but there might not be another one with a mystery this lousy. The solution was both obvious and boring. It felt longer than it was because the pacing meanders. Characters are usually Christie's strong point but they fall flat here. Even Ariadne Oliver can't save this one. Christie should have retired rather than publishing this book.
