I did not care for the actual mystery in this book and I felt it was kind of obvious what happened. What really made this book interesting was the characters. I felt they were fun and complex enough to make the reader want to know more. Also, I found this book a quick and easy read.

Might have been okay but the narrator on this audio book gave one character an extremely loud and annoying voice and I just couldn't stand more than an hour of it.

Gave the audiobook 30 minutes, and was not invested in the story or characters at all.

Ovidia Yu writes some of the best character descriptions I have ever read. I was captivated by Aunty Lee’s energy and enthralled by the vivid supporting characters.

Curious women of a certain age seem to exist the world over. And they get stuff done too...In this case in a gentle way through wisdom gained through cooking and judging people by their food. Aunty Lee runs a restaurant with delicious food (there's even a recipe at the end of my version of the book) and gets poking around in a murder case in Singapore.
I do enjoy reading a murder mystery like this every now and then when it isn't all a huge and horrible thriller. And it was really a nice change to read a book not set in Europe/western world and I would like to try to read more of those. The world is a big and varied place:)
