I thought this book was being datedly misogynistic, but it was actually quite surprisingly (and only slightly datedly misogynistic!).

I did not in any way predict the ending.

A rather marvelous Poirot, if you look at it a second time. The setting is contained while still feeling appealing; the characters are relatively modest in number and all emotionally simple to understand, and yet when Poirot hits upon his final move, you still don't quite get it unless you've been paying attention all along. Really excellent.

I liked the vibes more than the plot itself... which can be great with some other books but not murder mysteries. I read the book in a plane, which was a perfect way to start my own holiday, but I probably would have liked it less in some other setting. Solid Christie quality, the books are never bad, but she is capable of so much more.
