Not my favorite in the series BUT I think it was a really great book especially considering it's NUMBER SEVENTEEN. I also think it would be a psot for new readers to start the series and they can backtrack to the bnooks which sound the most interesting as Toby regains her memories of them.

Mary Robinette Kowal does an excellent job narrating this audiobook. I actually enjoyed it more in audio than print.

The next book in this series acts as a companion to this one, presumably covering the same time period, and you can definitely tell. The pacing felt uneven and the scope felt too narrow, which made me wonder whether splitting this story into two parts was really the best possible version of it. The final battle was a bit anticlimactic in my opinion, and there wasn't much resolution, but I suppose we'll get more of that in the next instalment. Overall, it wasn't a bad reading experience, even if part of me wishes that these two novels could have been combined into one. I might be proven wrong after reading the next one.
