Rereading one of my favorite books from elementary school. Very much a young adult book but still an entertaining story. Some pretty unintentionally funny parts that made me laugh at how implausible they were along with genuinely funny parts of Alex making fun of adults. As a 22 year old Alex rider isn’t nearly as likable as when I was 10 when I thought he was the coolest kid ever but I get why I liked it so much.
while i loved reading a spy thriller (page turners, so good!) this one was heavy on the YA aspect. still enjoyable! i won’t read more in the series but will absolutely recommend them for a younger crowd
I could never get my hands on this book because my students were always reading it. I can see why. Alex Rider, boy genius and reluctant spy, is an engaging hero-- James Bond for younger readers.
A nice way to get kids/early teens into reading spy-centric stories.

3 stars. Spy novels seem to be always somewhat cliche to me, and the reluctant hero trope can get boring, but I guess Alex Rider was okay. The character himself didn't seem to get much development at all, and he's kind of just perfect at everything- of course his uncle trained him in combat and parkour and whatever before he became a spy, so he's good at about everything a spy does. Anyway, I don't think I'll be continuing the series, but this is a good book if you're looking for a fast-paced middle grade spy novel.

Good first book in the series but the others are way better. However, I think the action sequences were quite epic.
