So many run-on sentences, a lot a descriptive language when unnecessary. The overall plot seems promising, but author’s writing was not my personal cup of tea.

First of all, it really wasn’t anything like I thought it would be from the description. I also had a lot of problems with all of the legal stuff. A lot of it was borderline unethical and I think he did a bad job on the case. The book was also really rant-y and soap box-y. And I was just sitting there thinking “… I mean I don’t disagree, but what does this have to do with this book?” I had such high hopes for this book and it disappointed me in so many ways. I wish I hadn’t finished it, but I kept thinking “maybe it’ll get better, the description was so good.” Alas, it did not.

How does the best selling author of Snow Falling on Cedars lose control of his narrative in a 200 page novel? This book begins with promise and derails quickly with so many subplots distracting the reader that they simply want it all to end.

Kinda confused about what I read. The middle part of the book was interesting and what I expected, the first and last part were just random stuff happening that had little connection to the middle. The writing is nice but yeah, felt a lot more like a slice of life than a police thriller.

When I opened "The Final Case" I expected a legal thriller surrounding the abuse and death of an international adoptee. What I found was not that at all, but rather a study of race, religion, family, and aging. It was narrated from a distant point of view with the narrator being the son of the defense attorney for one of the parents being tried rather than the attorney, the child, or the parents. Because of this, it was more analytical and less emotional than I expected as well. I walked away from this book unsettled and unsure. It wasn't what I expected, but the writing was beautiful and I think I still gained something from reading this book.

Very much based on a real case and it feels icky and white saviory
