How can I be impressed when this book was so short? I guess it was a nice essay. I read it in an hour.

Welp, I guess I have to read the Chaos Walking trilogy now. Such a great teaser of a prequel, so well written.

This novella was interesting and well told, with moments from Viola's life interspersed with the crash. It was cool to get some insight into Viola's life before she landed in the New World, and get to really know her and her parents as people.

I don't know about you, but if I was on a spaceship and was planning to send a first landing party on a new, unknown planet, I wouldn't waste precious space on the small ship with a 13 year old girl.
Also considering my life and safety pretty much depended on the first party, I would send more than just three people in one ship!I would send at the very least 3 ships to make sure at least one of them has a chance of making it in case something goes wrong.

But Nooo, apparently the people here are so filled with hope and sure that everything is gonna be puppies and rainbows that they don't even consider something going wrong and see fit to send one tiny ship with two adults and one kid to prepare the planet for thousands of people landing there. Isn't that just the height of logic?

Very short book. But enjoyed the back story.

I wanted to read The New World before starting The Ask and the Answer to freshen up my mind about the story, as it is ages that I read The Knife of Never Letting Go.

I liked Viola's POV; she seemed very mature for her age and I liked that and the contrast that's been created between her and Todd's POV.

It was interesting to learn about how Viola got to the New World and what she had to go through.

As always, I thought that it was way too short, a bit more story would have been nice. But that's always my problem with novellas.

I'm now so excited to finally read the second book of the trilogy!

4.5 stars.

My disappointment at [b:The Knife of Never Letting Go|2118745|The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1)|Patrick Ness|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1277071696s/2118745.jpg|2124180] ending at 94% on my Kindle dissipated quickly when I found this short story immediately following. What fun to learn more about Viola and peek into how she became selected to travel to the New World, as well as her flight there.

How could I give anything less to Patrick Ness?
