2,5/5

(3.5) I enjoyed these stories! some were eh, but still liked them for the most part. My favorites are Forbidden Fruit by Roshani Chokshi and The Crimson Cloak by Cindy Pon.

This compilation was so not for me, I think it’s pretty telling if you look at how many SHORT STORIES I DNF’d. I couldn’t even make it through short stories.

Overall this was by far my least favourite compilation.

Complete review available: A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

I thought this was a niche little collection, and I was a huge fan of discovering all these tales from other cultures that we don't typically hear in the Western World. My favourite by far has to be Alyssa Wong's "Olivia's Table" about the Hungry Ghost Festival - it just struck a chord with me and was such a fun, quirky tale. Disappointingly, as usual, there wad chaff amongst the wheat and things deteriorated as the book went on (until Kagawa's tale at the end, that is), which made it harder and harder to read on. Plot got lost, or never existed, characters became two-dimensional and narrative lost its relatability. On the whole, though, a book I'd recommend for anyone wit a curiosity for the myths and legends of Asian cultures.

Though I don't like short stories much, but i enjoyed this book of mythological Stories very much.

I liked the stories in the first half of the book but the second half was meh.

This book wasn’t terrible. There were some stories in here that I really really enjoyed, but then there were others that I was just bored with or extremely confused.

I enjoyed this collection of retellings. I enjoyed the brief explanations of the origin stories or myths almost as much as the stories themselves!
