I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I picked it up on whim thinking at most it would be an easy summery read but it was actually much more than that!! I was hooked on the mystery and I enjoyed all of the characters!

I picked up "Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye" by Victoria Laurie as I was after a light, fluffy holiday read but instead I found a real gem.
It tells the tale of the immediately likeable (and single) psychic intuitive Abby Cooper and her life in Royal Oak, Detroit.
Although it may appear that Victoria Laurie has followed the standard recipe for "chick lit" (single slightly odd-ball woman meets phenomenally handsome man then finds herself embroiled in some thrilling life & death situation) it appears fresh. It works! For me, there weren't even echoes of that "here we go again" feeling.
It has been marketed as "Mystery & Thriller" and lives up the genre very nicely. I was absorbed by the story and at times found myself actually a little afraid! Fantastic! Have already picked up the second in the series ("Better Read than Dead") and have delved happily back into the life of Abby Cooper.

What a breeze this was to read. I like Abby and the other characters in her life.
I've been reading different kinds of cosies just to see what's out there so...research.
This was much better than I thought it was going to be. It had a good story and kept the reader engaged. I had picked it up as a quick read following longer books I had read so it was refreshing and fun. I think I will get others in the series.
I really did not care for the narrator of this audiobook. She sounded too old for the character of Abby Cooper. I am not sure whether I would have liked the book better if I had read it. Abby Cooper's way of detecting whether someone is lying is to hear, "Liar, liar, pants on fire," in her head. After hearing it for the tenth time, it just seemed super cheesy.
I had been meaning to read this series, and then there was a free audible download so I listened to it. It was an overall OK listen during my commute.

Entertaining paranormal mystery. Not as good to me as Laurie's ghosthunter mystery series.
