This was surprisingly good. A bit slow at the middle, but the beginning and ending were amazing.

Maybe this would have had more impact if I hadn’t read it immediately after finishing ‘My Friends’ which is a caveat necessary for my review.
Unbeknownst to me, there was several parallels between these two books of Backmans. A curmudgeonly man, various traumatic experiences and pushy neighbours/people around him that make his life better. So in that respect, the story fell flat for me. It was absolutely heartwarming, tragic in parts and with a lovely neat happy ending, but it was not revelatory.

not better than anxious people but still fun and heartwarming. also i know that ove is supposed to be a grumpy hater but what is his gripe with fat people

Original and funny and moving and real. It was a pleasure to read the whole time.

Not me crying at my desk finishing this book.
