This second entry in the Wolf and the Watchman series starts soon after the first book ends and once again takes to the dark side of life in Stockholm in the late 1700s.

Following the style of the previous book, the story is told through the experiences of several characters who at first seem unconnected with the others. We have young Eric Three Roses who falls in love with a girl his father disapproves of, Tycho Ceton who is good at getting what he wants, Anna Stina whose fortunes have changed, Emil Winge who is the troubled brother of a respected lawyer, and Mickel Cardell who is a disable war veteran and city Watchman.

How these characters cross paths and how their fates are affected by Cardell and Winge make for a dark and complex story.  Natt och Dag takes us down the darkest paths and deepest tunnels to expose the full extent of human cruelty and evil and the relentless efforts others will undergo to stop it.

If I have a complaint about this book it's that it ends on a note that makes you want to know what happens next. I've come to care and be invested in these characters and can't wait to read the next book.

Thanks to Atria for the review copy.

Take a shot every time the line "the city between the bridges" appears... DON'T.
This book is DARK. Not for the faint of heart. That ending absolutely devastating.

Orkade inte lyssna klart. Det är precis som i första boken bara elände, även om det säkert beskriver tidsperioden på ett bra sätt.
