Adore this series and the style of writing so of course each book is amazing to me. I truly do not read these for whatever small bits of plot happen to pop up here and there, I’m really just here for the vibes and the heaps of serotonin. I will say though, love Gilbert’s patience and dedication to the cause! Of course, I know they end up together so it’s super endearing to watch him just clearly in love since day one but not pushing so much as an inch until she starts showing interest on her own. Delightful all around
Anne is remarkably still Anne and it's lovely to read about her adventures and misadventures. But Anne is not Anne because Anne is now acting the part of an adult and isn't a bright-eyed child any longer :(
As an aside, Dora could so with some more dialogue and an ounce of personality.

I want to read this because ANNE but I don't want it to ruin the magic aaa

I read Anne of Green Gables many, MANY times as a child and in the time since. And I remember reading Anne of Avonlea just once or maybe not even finishing it and being unimpressed because Anne is all grown up in it and that's boring. So imagine my shock and horror to learn that she is SIXTEEN and SEVENTEEN in this book!! And actually she is still so delightful! I loved getting to spend more time with her and Marilla and Rachel and Diana and the entire Avonlea community. The part where Marilla and Rachel become roommates so she can go to college was so sweet, I love them. And appreciated watching Anne deal with big life transitions, like when she talks about uprooting her current life and how much her watching her friends get married reminded me of Dolly Alderton. Interesting seeing things she deals with that are definitely hot button topics today (parent wants child called by different name than child wants, townspeople concerned about new people coming into the town from other places). I just love the way Anne brings whimsy into the ordinary and all her funny scrapes. Yay yay yay. Can't wait to keep reading and get the Gilbert enemies to friends to lovers pipeline completely created.
