I don't think I really get it, but I think that's okay. I do know that I haven't read anything like it before. I think I'm reeling. So it goes.

I'm not quite sure how to review this book. I love Vonnegut's style of narration, it feels as though I am listening to him ramble out a story on a bar stool.
But for some reason, I didn't get into this book. I just barely finished it. Now, I'm a pretty amateur reader, so I may be off base with my review. But, here it goes.
What I will say about Slaughterhouse five is that it was excellent in the sentences, but weak in the scenes.
His imagery was so, so vivid. His casual tone helped make serious topics more approachable.
But with all the jumping around, each scene seemed unfinished. This was probably intentional, seeing as the character himself was leaving scenes unfinished too, but it was difficult to follow. Each scene was somehow unsatisfying because he jumped before it could wrap itself up. And, it was difficult, or maybe tedious, to put the pieces together as I went. I lost interest as a result.

But, overall, I'm glad I finished it, and I would still suggest giving it a read, partly for the history and message about the realities of war, and partly because some parts were funny enough to make me laugh out loud.

It was a good book.
