I listened to this in audio & that’s likely part of the problem

Pompous, overwritten, rushed and containing every cheap PNR cliché known to man. However, I think (though I may be giving it too much credit) that since this was published well after the bulk of the other books, it is intended for pre-existing fans of the series, whose well entrenched love of the Breeds would carry the day. Perhaps it has more meaning and resonance for such readers. This is the first of the Midnight Breed books I've ever read and I WAS NOT IMPRESSED.

Oh, man, this book was so great! I really enjoyed the world that we were introduced to, and I can't wait to learn more about it! And a great couple! Loved them together!

I liked it. A great introduction into Laura Adrian's world. Another twist on the vampire lore, I am an Anne Rice fan though so I don't like seeing them played with much.
I have to say that it is very much like a series I am currently reading.....Lets just say it could get confusing it you tried to read them at the same time.
All that aside I like the characters and I will certainly read more of the series just to get to know them a little more. Tatoos that change with his moods, a farily strong h and some fair steam mixed with some action. Lets do this!

Side note: I hate the 'suckhead' references. What a horrible name for the 'villans'. It makes me think my 8 year old named them....

A Touch of Midnight is the prequel to the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. It is a fantastic paranormal romance- with vampires, sci-fi elements, drama, history, and mystery.
It is a short, novella sized story which makes it a very quick and easy read. I really enjoyed discovering how Savannah and Gideon met, and getting a lot of their back story, all while delving into the Midnight Breed world a little more. It is told from several points of view- which added an extra element of interest to the whole story. I love that this (and the rest of the series) is quite original- with a fresh take on the whole vampire genre.
A worthy addition to the series!

Thank you, Ms. Adrian!

Overly-dramatical and slow at times, but very interesting. I couldn't put the book down. The heroine was way too young and naive for me. She hovered around the TSTL border a lot. The story contained one of my biggest pet-peeves and for that I''m knocking off a star. Otherwise I was pretty pleased with this book and liked it quite a bit. My first foray into the world of vampires won't be my last.

I would like to to say that I really enjoyed this book. It was extremely well-written and had just the right combination of romance, suspense and action.

This Midnight Breed novella follows fan favourites art student Savannah and Medieval English broody vampire Gideon and explores how they met, their budding romance and explores Savannah’s mysterious powers as well as Gideon’s ancient past.

Okay, I realize this is a prequel Novella type book and that it’s not actually the first book in the series....which would explain why it was so rushed and such a short and to the point story. I’m not going to lie, the cheese factor was HIGH in this story. I read hundreds of romance novels a year and I have never seen such a terminal case of instalove in my life. The stilted dialogue and the hokey action sequences were also embarrassing....BUT....and it’s a big but....the whole book gave me Black Dagger Brotherhood vibes and I could see the potential for awesome stories in future installments. This is why I am going to give the next (first) book in the series a go. I am a sucker for a vampire warrior in leather I guess.

However, my face can only cringe so hard. I’m hoping the next book isn’t so heavy on the instalove and Shakespearean banter between couples. I’d love to have a new series to jump into since BDB has basically gone to ruin and my other favorite Immortals After Dark has been abandoned by its author.
