Fable was one of my favorite releases overall in 2020, though when it ended I was apprehensive. Did it need a sequel? Fable was already an excellent Standalone, and looking at it, the emotional journey was truly complete at the end of book one. To me, Namesake should probably NOT have happened, but it wasn't a bad ride.
The big thing this book suffers from is a lack of direction- because this story does feel rather disconnected from the previous plot. It gives off the vibe of an "Extra adventure". The characters don't really experience additional growth, and while we do learn a little more about Fable's family, it was nothing we really needed to know. The end of the book is also a bit slow.
BUT There's a lot of good here as well. Adrienne Young is a masterclass in prose. Her writing is BEAUTIFUL and she deserves credit for that. Fable feels lush and expansive. The world descriptions are poetic. Any other author could not have lured me in and made me care about this add-on plot, but I genuinely enjoyed this book.
If you LOVED Fable, Namesake is a great read. If book 1 wasn't your thing, this is absolutely skippable, but Young is still a beast writer and one of my favorite YA authors to date.

Overall, I have to say that I did enjoy Fable's sequel. Her story is a very interesting one. A story of survival, loyalty, and love. If you enjoyed Fable, this one is bound to surprise you, entertain you, and you will love how neatly her story concluded.

I just have that overwhelming feeling of being in love with this book, and it's hard to find words to convey why I love it so much. I think it's the blend of my love for the characters, the setting, the little hint of magic, the atypical family, and the sailing that has me. I absolutely love being on boats and swimming, so combining that with some of my favorite writing devices is the surest way to my heart.
This book picks off right where Fable ended, throwing us right back into the action. The author maintained the witty dialogue, Fable's strong character, the romance, and the family drama that I had come to expect from the first book. I loved the fast-paced plot and the more vulnerable aspects throughout the book. Overall this was a really satisfying conclusion to this duology and I'm sad that there won't be any more!
