I love murder mysteries but this one just wasn’t good. Not that the plot was bad, but the pacing was. It felt so slow and for a 400 page book it was aggravating. The pacing didn’t speed up for until the very end and even then it didn’t last long for it to go back to being slow.

LOVED! Bisexual protagonist solving a murder mystery in Jazz Age New Orleans? Yes ma’am I’ll take three. Such a great debut novel for Lambert, and as i’ve said before I’d die for Millie and Olive.

I finished this book, but only because I found the shoddy craftsmanship entertaining. If you like 1930s mysteries, for goodness sake go read some that were actually written then. They're far better written, plotted, and many of them have more queer characters than you would guess. Start with Josephine Tey and then cry, like I did, when I finished the last one.
