Well-written and an interesting read, but it’s probably my least favorite of the 5 Dune books I’ve read so far

Hard to follow, nothing happens until the end which he just glosses over in a rush

Honestly felt more digestible than God Emperor but definitely stranger in the philosophy - I really don’t know what to expect in the next and final one. I mostly love Herbert’s writing style, it’s easy to get absorbed. Teg was my favorite character and I wish there was a greater exploration of his developments. The ending is abrupt (per usual) and relatively very little action takes place “on screen.”

Heretics was maybe the most engaging read of the series so far, very driven by the plot and with exciting central characters who were well balanced and developed. Although i wish Sheeana's perspective remained more central through the end, and the end did seem rushed compared to the moment by moment details the first 90% of the book. Also this was much hornier than previous books which certainly accelerated the plot.

It's a Dune book so honestly so much happens and so many characters are doing things it is hard to keep track of. In this one, we follow the remnants of a great empire and a reversion of the surface of Arrakis. It includes the same religious fervor and politicking of multiple sides of a prophecy in interesting ways.

I enjoyed Sheanna, this book's prophecy recipient, and it was refreshing for it to be a woman this time. I thought her interactions with the sand worms were fascinating and opened up some new perspectives on this worldbuilding that Herbert continues to build upon and I am excited to get to the next one.

I finally decided to come back to the Dune series months after the dense reading of God Emperor of Dune.
This one is a blast, action packed, jumping between 4 different groups of characters that are connected in different ways to the epihany of Sheeana, a girl in Arrakis that can control the worms.
The biggest highlights of 'Heretics' are:
