Stella, who is an interest lawyer, who is assigned to a new case to 9 year old Rose whose parents are going through a divorce and her nanny recently died at her home too. Stella goes beyond looking for the best interest of Rose and digs into why the nanny died. The story is a bit creepy and leads you down to not knowing who to trust. In addition to this case, Stella finally looks into the case of her mom's death and learns so much about her past. I found the attempt at romance for Stella was a bit out of place and didn't really add to the book and didn't provide any glimpse of what's to happen. Overall, a great enjoyable psychological thriller.

Laura Benanti did a great job with the narration and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Thank you @stmartinspress @macmillan.audio @netgalley for a copy of the book.

I'm a bit conflicted about this one. The tension and the idea behind the story, that of a young girl who isn't talking after her nanny dies under mysterious circumstances, was entertaining. I also thought Stella, the main character, was interesting. But some elements didn't add up for me (I can't say much because they're spoilers), which caused me to round the story down about a star. It was interesting and well-written, as Pekkanen's novels always are.

An exciting thriller where every member of the Barclay family is a suspect. Sarah Pekkanen keeps you guessing, which made this one hard to put down!! I loved the parallels between the protagonist, Stella and the little girl, Rose who Stella is tasked with providing custody recommendations for.  If you’re looking for a quick thriller read, this one is it!

This audiobook was made available for me to listen to and review by Sarah Pekkanen, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley.

This is set up almost like a police procedural. Stella Hudson is an emotionally wounded protagonist who is going through an amicable divorce. She has unresolved trauma from her childhood and spent a time dealing with traumatic mutism as a kid. Now as a best interest attorney who's professional life is all about protecting children, she's able to offer children the protection she never received as a child. Due to her own trauma Stella never accepts children younger than 12 as clients. However her mentor, Charles, asks her to look into a case because the child involved is struggling with traumatic mutism. Stella would do anything for Charles who is a father-like figure in her life and so she breaks her rule and accepts this case.

Rose Barclay is the 9 yr old child at the center of Stella's new case. Rose's nanny, Tina, fell from second story window and died in front of her. The police are unsure if Tina fell or was pushed. Harriet Barclay, Rose's grandmother, told police Rose was with her when Tina fell but Stella isn't sure. The investigation into Tina's death uncovers an affair that she was having with Rose's father, Ian Barclay. In fact, Tina was pregnant by Ian when she fell from the window. Which led to Rose's mother, Beth Barclay, filing for divorce. Both parents are desperate for full custody and it falls to Stella to investigate and discover what living situation would be best for Rose. Of course it would be best for Rose if full custody didn't go to a murderer. Stella is determined to figure out how to keep Rose safe, though Rose may be in the most danger from herself.
This is twisty, fast paced, interesting and had me guessing until the very end.

The narrator of this audiobook is Laura Benanti. Ms. Benanti's voice is rich and engaging. Her accent, tone and inflection all perfectly work to bring Stella to life.

Thank you to Sarah Pekkanen, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. All opinions and viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.

I took a few days to digest the greatness that is “House of Glass” by Sarah Pekkanen. The bold colors of the cover of this book brought it to the top of my reading list, but I was quickly sucked into this crazy world and I loved it. There is a chance that some of you might feel Sarah tried a bit too hard to create this spooky-house-vibe, and I felt that too, but overall it didn’t distract me from the overall story.

Due to the trauma of her parent’s divorce and the death of her nanny, Rose is experiencing traumatic mutism. This makes Stella’s job much more difficult as her lawyer attempting to find what parenting arrangement is in Rose’s best interest. Trying to get close to Rose and the entire Barclay clan is a challenge, but Stella is trying her darndest despite flashbacks to her own traumatic childhood and traumatic mutism.

The biggest twist for me came when it was revealed what happened in Stella’s childhood more than what happened to R

House of Glass

I want to thank NetGalley & the author for giving me the opportunity to read this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

THOUGHTS:

Talk about a read! I read this faster than I intended because I didn't want it to end up I didn't want to stop it. Page after page you are thrown through loops, twists and turns. If you are a fan of murder mysteries, you will eat this up. This book is fast paced straight off from the get-go. Our MC Stella is an attorney and has to decide where a child who just lost her nanny in a tragic d3ath has to decide which of her currently divorcing parents she should go to while also trying to figure out what exactly happened to the nanny. Will she make the right decision, will she get lost too far in the investigation of what happened. This story will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time!
