DNF

honestly I dont know what to say. this was all over the place.

honestly the world building confused me - they go to school in the modern world but everything is hidden from humans, but then again not all hidden from humans bc they compete in sports. but we dont know if Rathe is in another realm or in the modern world hidden by magic like the school is. I still have NO idea what type of monster/being Knight is and what exactly his powers entail, all i know is he can do shit with air. Im pretty sure he also sucks blood or something but not sure if hes actually a vampire, since he refers derogatorily to them as blood-suckers. Hence my confusion.

Hockey was mentioned in this for no good reason it just further confused me as to the human/Rathe or Giftless/gifted distinction. there was no point to it and didnt add anything to the story.

London is a girl with basically no goals in life besides following her best friend (which she repeatedly gushed about how amazing and caring he is but apparently its all platonic ???? then shut up about it then). Her best friend Ben is literally a pointless character as far as ive read and idk his purpose besides showing london has one friend. I felt no attachment to her. I felt like the goal was to make her super feminist with her loving sex and not being ashamed of having a lot of sexual partners, but it just came off as forced and over the top.

example:
“I don’t suck on anything unless it’s over six foot and has a red flag hovering over their head.”

Also, there is SO much drug use in this. Only 50% through the book almost all of the MC interactions involve both of them being super high and drunk. London repeatedly gets so high that she constantly questions whether what shes seeing is real (it is), so youd think shed lay off the drugs, but no! she takes more. Theres just so much drugs and sex and not enough romance lol.

Additionally, I was reading this and genuinely thought it might be a reverse harem because London is literally attracted to everyone and everyone is attracted to her. Knight and his blood-related BROTHERS and his best friend all have this weird tension/attraction to London and honestly, if i didnt get alternate pov from MMC, i honestly wouldnt know who the love interest was or if it was supposed to be all of them.

Whats the point or meaning to a MF romance book if they mcs are both attracted to anything that walks and act on it. I prefer my mmcs to be possessive and we honestly really get that, ya know, since he forced and watched her kiss THREE different people, ONE OF THEM BEING HIS BROTHER AND THE OTHER HIS BEST FRIEND ?!??????!!! Knight literally pushes the heads of London and his best friend together while shes on his lap….. i was not a fan. Hence my confusion on whether this was why choose or not.

4.5

Oh my goodness- what did I just read?!
Knight and his brothers are sent to Rathe U- a school full of his kind, but living among the giftless as part of his training. Knight and his brothers are Lords, set to rule their kingdom when the time comes. But what Knight doesn't expect, is a five foot human to snag his attention. Little does she know, she becomes hos newest obsession... But what Knight never expected was this giftless human, being his mate. Now he's set on proving to the fates, that they were wrong, even if it means destroying her in the process.
Seriously you guys!
So if you don't already know I love Meagan Brandy's books- she's my unicorn author. I've fallen in love with everything she has put out. I also love Amo Jones she writes dark worlds that I love getting lost in, so hearing that these two teamed up for a paranormal/urban fantasy book - I was dying to get my hands on it. And they did not disappoint.
The world is a mix of contemporary and fantasy- perfect if you are new to reading fantasy or if you love diving into fantastical worlds frequently. There's magic but so much more and loved watching the world unfold throughout the story.
I fell in love with the characters- Knight's mate always felt like something was missing in her life. Knight & his brothers were brooding, possessive, over the top, dark and delicious.
And in true Amo fashion, you don't know everything that is going on, until she is ready to reveal it, but when she does it's everything.
I loved this story, this setting and these characters, and I cannot wait for more of this world!
