This was on a "wtf did I just read" list and I mean, that really says it all. Wtf did I just read. Haven't felt this weird since seeing Midsommar for the first time, which I think is a cool thing

Impossible to rate with stars. Great book, hated every minute of it. It takes a great author to write something this upsetting and also worthy of the time and effort to get though it. Give it a try if you want to feel bad, read about gross things, and write "ugh," "gross," and "Jeeeesus" in the margins every few pages.

*EDIT* I'm adding a star rating because I haven't stopped thinking about it since I read it. Unforgettable book.

Wild. Dark. Disturbing. I don’t know how many “what-the-fucks” i’ve said. No likable characters (except for Lispeth maybe?). This is so good and intriguing though, it will either leave you wanting for more or just rage quit the damn book 🤣

What a bizarre, difficult to rate book. It felt like a big character study of this small, medieval town. And very fucked up.

I loved this book. It’s disturbing, uncomfortable, and makes you feel icky inside, but it is written beautifully. So many horrible things happen- sexual assault, imprisonment, suicide, cannibalism, murder, drought, starvation, greed, religious trauma… and lots more I won’t mention, this book has it all. You hate every character, yet can’t wait to turn the page to see what they do next. Nothing is predictable, besides maybe the legitimacy of heirs. Trigger warnings galore, but a captivating story.
