What a powerful little book. I was aware of the destination, but it left me devastated.

Since reading this short story, I've needed a couple of days to understand my feelings. As an Indigenous woman, this story hits very close to home. My heart broke reading this story and I wish it ended happily, but that wasn't even close to what these children experienced.

Just read this book!

For such a heartbreaking story, it is beautifully written. I cried and felt fear and wanted to be there to protect young Chanie Wenjack. Such an important story.

The tone is a bit hard to follow because there is not a shift between Chanie and the animals, it is all the same and in the same chapter.
It's an important story and very sad.
