This book is definitely not for me. The writing style is juvenile, and not in a good way; it’s stilted and awkward and difficult to read. There’s no plot except for Codi being embarrassingly envious and petty of her fourteen-year-old brother and picking fights because other people like to party and she doesn’t. There’s definitely some potential with some of the characters, but I don’t feel like waiting another 100 pages to start enjoying my reading experience.

I’m quite disappointed, because I was super excited for this and expected to like it, but I just don’t.

I’m on the fence about how I feel with this one. Reading the description before reading had me pulled in, deep. I couldn’t stop reading when I started. I came out late in life, and the book really had me feeling like I missed out on what high school could’ve been like had I come out sooner. Overall, the book was a good read but there were parts I feel like could’ve been excluded from the book- like they didn’t need to be in there at all. Good read, but I definitely think it would likely be a 5/5 stars for young queer teens who are going through and find it more relatable, in the moment.
