I was afraid to read this book. After how much I loved The Butterfly Garden, and the slight disappointment that The Roses of May didn’t live up to it, I thought this would be another just eh experience. BUT IT WAS SO GOOD. Disturbing, beautiful, and heartbreaking. I feel back on track with this series, and am ready to see where else this author goes!

The case on this one was better than the last. I appreciated it more, at least.
The relationships were still weird for me... I love me some good 'found family' tropes, but I don't really buy the scenes where we see it in this series... I like what they are trying to show, I just don't see this one happening. What I buy and was expecting since early on was the relationship between Eddison and Sterling (maybe I just have a shipper heart, I don’t know)
I loved the little snippets of the murderer story. At first, I couldn’t piece them together because who deserves so much pain? But it really helps the story and our understanding of it. And I was almost relieved when we finally got some backstory on Mercedes, I was almost betting we weren’t going to get it in this book!
Overall, I liked this one! I just loved The Butterfly Garden more.

This book was much harder to read then expected. I really enjoy this author and what she does. It’s great having her take the fbi agents and make a case close to their hearts. But I will say even thought I knew children would be involved I didn’t think how. The different types of abuse and reading from the different perspectives as things got worse was just hard. But at the same time the book was just addicting once I got about half way. I just couldn’t put it down. Just be prepared to feel a lot of mixed emotions while reading this installment of the series.
As usual with Hutchison's books, I loved this! There were some parts that read a bit odd and like they'd been forced in, which is why I've dropped a star. Overall though, fantastic continuation and I loved the new characters.
