Good story. However, if you do not understand Spanish helpful to have translate pulled up on your laptop to help you throughout the book with a lot of phrases and sentences.
*4.5*
So - this series is one I've struggled with, just due to the nature of the content. Obviously, I like the books, that's why I've read all 3 now, but I guess that's a sign of a good writer, one who can pull at your heartstrings and your conscience and make you question what the fuck is wrong with you for liking such a book. Anyway...
Let's put it this way:
I couldn't get enough of The Butterfly Garden - it was new and fresh and I've never read anything like it before. It was disturbing but entertaining.
The Roses of May - I was a little bored with this one. I was able to get through it and was a little surprised at how it ended, though in hindsight, I should have/probably could have guessed. Still good, I liked it.
The Summer Children - Here we are...This was the best out of the 3 in terms of character development (in my opinion) and it wasn't all a great and perfect ending. What I mean is, obviously these aren't happy stories...I get that, but this one ended with a few less strings tied up. The murderer made a mistake (no, not getting caught, smartass...we know that always happens) but I wont tell you what.
Now I see there is a 4th book in The Collector series...Is it real? We'll find out. I'm excited to see where Dot Hutchison goes next. The Summer Children was truly original in content (maybe a little Dexter-esque...?) but I liked it.

Loving this series so much! I need more from these characters and especially the amazing FBI crew that gives #careergoals.
Definitely the strongest so far and my favorite! These keep getting better and better.
Let me start this review by stating that I am absolutely in LOVE with this series, I impatiently wait each new installment like I did as a teenager awaiting the new Harry Potter book. If you are into murder mystery, give this series a try! A page turner from the first sentence!
FBI Agent Mercedes Ramirez is the focal character in this book instead of the normal male agent, Victor. I love the fact that we got to see more of Mercedes who had sparked my interest as a strong female role since book 1, The Butterfly Garden. Ramirez shines exactly how I pictured her to be, a strong woman but also very aware of her weaknesses and what she can do to change those weaknesses into strength. As I mentioned before, Victor, one of the male leads, falls into the background of the story as the women take the lead in this installment. This also proves true for new female FBI agent, Sterling; I personally can not wait to get to know more about this character in the next installment.
The Summer Children jumps right into the action when three children show up at Ramirez’s front door covered in blood, clutching a brown teddy bear. The children claim that the Angel killed their parents and brought them to her because she would keep them safe. However, it does not stop there, more children are dropped at her door, all bloodied and clutching a teddy bear, all claiming that the angel killed their parents to keep them safe. Mercedes is forced to confront her past in order to solve the case, but will confronting her own personal demons prove to be too much for her and jeopardize not only her life but the lives of innocent children?

I am glad we finally get to hear more about Mercedes’ background in book #3. I do recommend reading them in order and not as a stand alone as it builds the characters’ stories and I feel that makes it more enjoyable.

Last few chapters where not needed and could have been summed up in a page or two. Overall not a bad book
