A very quick read, but sincere and engaging. I think a lot of stories about oppressed women in the Middle East tend to sensationalize. From reading this book, I see how Najood's father could have married her off at such a young age. Not that it makes it acceptable, but culturally, I see how things like this happen. Interesting family dynamics with how siblings interact and the family's connection with the 'other wife'. I'd love to know more about Shada, her lawyer.

Nujood is an incredibly brave little girl who fled her abusive husband at age 10. Her book speaks of childhood innocence, and the loss of that innocence, beautifully. Nujood made me laugh and cry.

It's hard to say this is a "good" book due the content. Nothing good happened to this young girl. The book is an eye awaking read. What she endured was humbling. Her strength to make a change empowering. I am sure that with this countries cultures it took great strength. The ability to forgive her parents remarkable. I wonder if she had options to not be sent back home after her divorce if she would have. I am glad his was one of my daughters summer reads for school. I think it is important not to take for granted the many benefits we have for living in the USA this book slammed that right into my face. I hope Nujood is able to succeed in all she dreams for.

This book was heartbreaking and memorable.
At only ten years old, Nujood is forced to marry a man three times her age. He forces himself on her going as far as to beat her when she tries to pull away. This child, who only wants to draw and play with others, is now a wife, and is expected to perform all of her duties.
Nujood is courageous and strong, leading the way for other girls like herself - young and scared.
Her story is captivating and harrowing.
