Such a sad but beautifully written story. This writing is truly gorgeous!

Boring. I can't relate to any stories about large families, or siblings. It was like reading This Is Us. I also didn't like the way it was told, jumping back and forth in time, and never explaining what in the hell was going on in 2079.

I was excited to read this, as I love family sagas that span for entire lifetimes, or multiple generations. It was so so for the first 75% of the book, but I was too invested and liked it enough to keep going. I am glad I did. I loved the way the author wrapped it all up and I really loved the last quarter of the book.

I enjoyed this book overall, but the futuristic piece and all the drama surrounding it, the sirens, etc...didn’t seem as important to me ... where was that going? I felt it was a little odd. Overall I enjoyed the lives of the Skinner family and their lives.

I won Tara Conklin’s The Last Romantics in a Goodreads giveaway, and what a treat reading it proved to be. Its uniquely modern plot addresses the tumultuous lives of four siblings who encounter numerous, life-altering events which are never justly addressed as childhood trauma.
As such, the three Skinner sisters and their beloved brother, Joe, spend their adult years searching for something or someone on which to project their seemingly endless pain. Ultimately, however, this process leads the suffering family to find a strong sense of personal identity which they have never before possessed. This novel is at times a slow and winding read, but it is nevertheless a work of art.

I feel like this book set itself up to be something it didn’t deliver on. But I still enjoyed it.

I’ve tried to read this book twice from the library and I’m just not sure I really liked the story enough to get through it. I’m being kind with the 2 star review. Maybe others will enjoy it more than I.
