About the Book: Long ago Tempe had a childhood friend, a quirky and strange girl whose company was a delight. Then one day the girl disappeared. And the people told Brennan not to pursue her, letting it slip that doing so would be too dangerous. Today before Brennan lie bones. Bones that surface all those memories, and hold a lead to the darkest edges of the criminal world.
My Opinion: Sometimes Brennan defies logic. Considering her field of work, how can she brush off someone disappear for days if not a week, on a “eh, they were always impulsive“? Other times she dreams up, literally, the answers, making it a bit harder for the reader to follow and connect the dots. Not a masterpiece, but, okay, not bored yet.

An entertaining listen. I enjoyed the Temperance, even if it took me a few minutes to get used to her not being "Bones from TV". The supporting cast wasn't bad either. I wasn't blown away by the story, but it was okay. Probably on the same level as a Rebus.
I gotta say, though, the reader was phenomenal. She was clear and understandable, pronounced the French well, and did a good job with her different voices for each character - a joy to listen to.

Another great read from Kathy Reichs in the Temperance Brennan series. As with all long running series, some are going to be my favorites, others not as much. I wouldn’t say that Bones to Ashes is my favorite in this series but that could also be because of the subject matter. Young girls are going missing in Montreal and Tempe and her favorite SQ detective, Andrew Ryan, are on the case. But emotions get in the way as Tempe battles ghosts from her past and present. I enjoyed this story, an emotional gut punch at some points but with Tempe’s sister Harry along for the ride, I really enjoyed how the story unfolded.
3.5 stars. The series has grown on me. I started out being disappointed that the books and tv series isn't the same or similar in anyway but I find my self eager to pick up book after book. They aren't great or a favorite but they are great fun
Whilst this was a quick read that I somewhat enjoyed, I still find myself wondering why I continue to pick up this series. The over explanation of the forensics and anthropology in this book would be interesting (especially to someone like me, studying forensics/psych/criminology), but it is over-explained in such a niche way that really takes you away from the story. There are far too many things going on in the plot, making it sometimes hard to follow, with too many dead bodies who seem only surface level relevant to the plot. The fact that a good portion of this book has parts translated to French was frustrating and I skimmed a lot of those passages. The actual plot was not too bad - but I just don't think I appreciate the characters and might go elsewhere to get my criminology fix.
This is the 10th book in the Temperance Brennan series, which is the series the tv show Bones is based off of. It's also the first book i've read in this series, plus i've never seen the show, though aparently it's very loose base and the characters act a lot differently. I wasn't expecting much, but i really did enjoy the book. What i like about it most is how graphically they get into the autopsies and such things. Temperance works on old or damaged corpses, mostly bones. They even describe how she melts down the bodies to get to just the clean bones. I read that while eating lunch LOL but really, it seems like this series wouldn't be for the faint of heart. the mystery was good enough to be read as a stand-alone book, and things were repeated enough about the characters' history that i had no trouble following this, just jumping in. a coworker saw me reading this and lent me a bunch of other books in this series, so i'll definitely be reading more. this is coming from someone who as a teen had a big wish to go witness autopsies, and honestly, it still sounds intriguing.
