Not what I expected. Teenaged me would have absolutely fallen in love with how she expresses her agony. I would have found it so tragically romantic and beautiful. As it stands today, I bitterly relate to some and ache for the rest. Good for her for this "excision", as she called it. It's a good description. I don't feel the need to critique her style, other than to say it is singular and consistent and evocative. I came to satisfy my curiosity, stayed to feel the feels and be reminded that being very beautiful is no protection.

These were tragic. Content wise, 95% of them were about men’s abusive behavior to her. I can’t say I enjoyed any of them. Just wasn’t for me.
(And wow, who hurt her this much, yikes.)

Most people look at celebrity poetry and generally don’t have positive thoughts on the content of said published works, especially given the recent uptick in celebrity poetry in the last handful of years. Though this trend is more prominent with musicians.

There are a lot of poems in this collection that don’t particularly appeal to me stylistically. They’re more reminiscent of what a young, beginning writer would find in their first drafts.

If I feel that way, why rate this collection so high? Because poetry is subjective but it’s also about intent. Some works are left up to the interpretation of the reader, but with “Pretty Boys Are Poisonous” this is not the case. The message is clear and it’s actually quite heart wrenching. The quality of the poetry is subjective to the reader and isn’t what matters here. Megan Fox express the pain, heartache, anguish, and grief that she has endured in her own life (and that of the persona of her poems’ narrators) and for me, that is all I need to prove how great this book is and how much it truly means.

If someone can relate to it or find healing and community in what Megan Fox has written, then this book has done its job.

I am not usually a fan of poetry but this was excellent. Heartbreaking, dark, sarcastic
- I loved it. The last two poems broke my heart for her.
