wow

This was more than I could have ever hoped for. I crave to crawl deeper into her mind and hear more of her stories.

I feel like I should preface this review by saying I am not a poetry aficionado. I am, however, participating in the Sealey Challenge and this was my first selection. I am also fairly ambivalent about Megan Fox as an actress and am unfamiliar with her personal life.

This collection of poems is full of anger, bitterness, sadness, and despair. It portrays a woman in an abusive relationship(s?), reflects on both herself and her abuser, and I am left with little hope tbh. I cannot help but feel her pain, have empathy for what she has been through, and applaud her courage and vulnerability to share these words.

As far as poetry goes, it gives me rupi kaur vibes - they are short, give journal-entry vibes, lines scribbled on a napkin moreso than fully developed poems. This seems to be a negative to most reviewers, likening them to tumbler posts, but I appreciation the rawness. Some of the lines were stunning and worthy of jotting down. Photosynthesis in particular spoke to me.

As much as I dislike Megan Fox—I have more respect for her now because both her and I share similar (stories aka poems) experiences in life.
