I don't normally like reading poetry, but these ones were so well written that some left me speechless. I have so much sympathy for all that this poor girl has been through, and this book felt like a look into her diary.

❤️ Vulnerable collection of poems

🚨 Trigger Warning: Discussions of domestic violence, assault, and self harm (check book for more detailed list)

✨️ Mini Review ✨️
"The creature that seeks me when he is thirsty for tears" and "a beautiful boy is a deadly drug," was one of the poems that stuck with me. The way Fox discusses assault, self harm, and the grief of looking back on relationships that hurt more than they helped was so raw and vivid. This audiobook was only 48 minutes and I felt like I was watching a dark film in my mind, like the main character broke the 3rd wall and I couldn't help. "I Am Ashes" and "I Am Prince Charming," where my favorite. For anyone who's ever been in a abusive relationship this collection of poems was intense. I hope the author finds peace and safety.

Rating. 2.5

The poems are alright; there is not much to write home about. Some are Rupi Kaur-esque, as many people have already said, but others are so short that I barely have an opinion on them. They feel unfinished. As if there's a word, a sentence, or an entire stanza missing. Some of the titles are cutesy, and others are cringeworthy.

"And so I have spent all of my life making myself small so that others can feel confident. I have a savior/martyr complex." [dear reader//preface]

The entire preface was sooo real and relatable and actually constructed with what felt like purpose. Not just "cool" or "quirky" words strung together to make a ten-word, ten-lined poem that barely fits half the page. I only wish that the poetry was structured like the preface and written that way, confessional and vulnerable. Instead of overly thought out and ruined by cliche metaphors or ones that aren't executed well enough.

Addictive, powerful, experimental in some ways, and attractive. There were a few times when I felt it slowed down, but other than that I couldn't stop reading!
