it was sooo raw. at some points i could feel my heart breaking for her. while i still struggle with analysing english poetry, i understand that she does an excellent job at being poetic yet on point. you could read her soul naked.

this had so much potential but it would’ve been better if it were a collection of essays or sth cuz this can’t be called poetry…

At first I listened to the audiobook but decided I wanted to have a copy I could view. I like Ms. Fox’s voice so I’m glad I listened to the audiobook but I don’t think it was the right way for me to enjoy her collection of poems. There are some poems I really liked. It was nice to see a Rupi Kaur style of poem from a celebrity most people say is just beauty and no substance. I definitely think there is a future for another poetry book from Ms. Fox and I hope she releases it. This was a nice read with very pretty artwork.

Everything about this cover, title, narration, and layout was FIRE!
I listened and read tandem, ending up with 33 highlights. There were plenty of vocabulary words, but I didn’t highlight any of them, as I should have. I loved hearing Fox read her own poems while I read. It was a nice touch. I was unfamiliar with so many words and stories tied to her poems. I know a few would have held deeper meaning if I were more educated on Greek mythology and fairy tales.
I know there is a lot of hate online about this being/not being poetry. Isn’t poetry subjective? Can’t anything be poetry if you break it apart and add some figurative language to it to bury your meaning, all the while leaving it right in front of your face? I’m not well versed on poetry, but I did find figurative language. Having Fox read to me, helped break apart the lines and create rhythm for me.

I love Megan Fox and couldn’t wait to dip into her thoughts after she said she’s been keeping men’s secrets for years and if she didn’t let them out, it would make her sick.
These poems are old from the privacy of Fox’s own homes with the men she’s had as lovers. Shit apparently gets dark in her romantic encounters. Fox has said that these poems are an attempt to rid her body of the past trauma.
Some poems were more/less quotes, and some didn’t hit for me, many did. I seemed to get more from the longer ones, personally. Fox seems to be into mythology and fairy tales and many of her poems were titled after them.
People suspect many poems are about MGK; I take it to understand these are a collection across many relationships. And judging from my own past, I’d assume the worst of them were in her 20’s. Goes to show you have no idea what is going on behind closed doors.
I appreciated the abstractness of several poems. I appreciated her emphasis on the audio version so I could understand the rhythm and cadence better.
I’ve seen people online suspecting this stuff MUST be made up (for whatever reason) and she’s sick for writing it. Let’s pretend for a minute all this was figurative (though she has spoken out that she’s been in a physically abusive relationship and several psychologically abusive relationships); I hope we can all agree that someone, somewhere, feels the same and maybe a little stronger for having read her collection.

At first, I thought someone needed to check on Fox. Then, I remembered this is poetry and some of this is figurative and written to make you feel. My younger self felt this! We all suffered relationship trauma, and she was just brave enough to put a pen to hers and let it out. I not only felt empathy for Fox, but for younger myself and all women who still deal with the nastiness of beautiful boys who are rife with poison.
While I felt things, I didn’t feel them deeply. Maybe there wasn’t enough time to ruminate. Maybe I didn’t get to feel the good stuff before feeling the bad, which made it not live in my bones. After all, isn’t that how the sadistic pricks get in? With magnetism and love bombs? We went straight into trauma, and only trauma. I’ve been away from such unhealthiness for so long, it’s hard to remember. I needed more help to feel it.
It being poetic, I expected more heartache on my part. I just didn’t get completely there.

“Greek tragedies lose their poetry when you live them” – Megan Fox
The Best: I commend Fox for putting this out there. Regular people tend to think celebrities have it made with all their beauty and cashflow. But they don’t. They are stuck in the same twisted cycles many non-famous people are stuck in. Her bravery was the best for me.
The Worst: The constant play on already created works, but I also was unfamiliar with many of them. Maybe some of the poems would have hit harder if I was familiar.
Themes: Love, Loss, abuse. I’d say she hit the nail on the head! This book has relationship abuse, unhealthy relationships, addiction, suicide, miscarriages. The themes are heavy, and need to be talked about, especially by a woman of Fox’s stature.
Moral: Know your self-worth and don’t ever make yourself small to make someone else confident. I got to make that up as the internet didn’t guide me…but that’s what I felt.
