This was interesting. First of all: I would NOT consider this YA! However, as I’m not the biggest fan of YA anyways this meant I quite enjoyed a lot about this. I really liked the setting, thought the writing style was very easy to follow and am quite intrigued by the plot.
Unfortunately I thought there was just too much going on that left me a little confused right and left… Sometimes less is more… 
I was also a little frustrated by a couple of plot holes

(e.g. why weren’t the parents asking more questions?!?!)

, but I overall enjoyed this book and am excited to continue.

After falling hard for Maniscalco's first series, maybe I set my hopes too high for this one. I never got drawn into the story the way I wanted to, but the cliffhanger ending ensures I will be around for the next volume.
