You might need to be a little weird, neurotic, addicted, etc. to really appreciate this kind of book; personally I happen to be all of those so I really loved it. I’m glad I listened to the audiobook

A disappointing second taste of Augusten Burroughs. I waded through, out of loyalty to this otherwise brilliant author, but I am beginning to believe his brilliance is largely dependent on his distance from the story. Perhaps this chapter in his life could have been better shared in another twenty years.
Book starts very well, then tapers off and off some more. I thought I had found a great new author, but maybe not.
I was interested in attending a gay and lesbian rehab centre, less interested in the post-rehab melancholy and subsequent decent.

Honestly I did not like the blatant racism at some parts. The book felt very human and real. I feel bad for the things that happened to him, and the people around him.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Alcoholism, Chronic illness, Drug abuse, Drug use, Pedophilia, Toxic relationship
Moderate: Racism
A funny, smart and sarcastic memoir about Burrough's recovery from alcohol abuse.
