A better written "diary of an oxygen thief", longer and less depraved but more interesting in its style and structure. Has some brilliant lines

Decidedly both my favorite Augusten Burroughs book, and my favorite book on the subject of alcoholism. Now excuse me, I am moved to get absolutely BOMBED and score some crack. ;)

Never thought I would have so much in common with an alcoholic, incredibly painful, human and believable. Or he just had a way of drawing me into his story that I believed it was my own.

The difference between Dry and Running with Scissors is notable- he’s definitely grown, and is now writing with more clarity and humility. I find myself wondering about the truth between the narratives, but less frantically than with his first memoir.

Critics claiming ‘Dry’ is deeper and more complex than his previous ‘running with scissors’ are a breed of people I do not understand. I have read sharper, I have read more honest, and more lilting memoirs. Burroughs’ writing is honest and with that comes a certain beauty that I am not dense enough to not see, but the praise putting this among other five star books are misplaced. His sharpness becomes too much in the offensive lines thrown in throughout the piece - short anti Semitic and islamophobic quips that any editor should have seen only detract from the credibility of the piece.
