This book provided incredible insight into the life of an alcoholic and the journey to recovery. This really helped me understand the thought process of Augusten and I found the language refreshingly honest. It was deep, thoughtful, and well-written. Definitely recommend, especially for the support system of recovering alcoholics.

This was an interesting look in to the life of an alcoholic who is sent to rehab thinking it'll be a nice break rather than to actually deal with his problem. The first round of rehab seemed all too simple for him, but I had to remember to take everything with a grain of salt. Though this is supposedly Burroughs' autobiography, you could tell it was embellished and some of the timelines didn't make sense. For example, [SPOILER] near the end of the book he says he had been relapsed longer than he had been sober and then he gets a call from the jeweler a few month's after PigHead's death. PigHead's death caused him to relapse so a few months is not longer than the 9 months he spent sober.

In any case, it was easy to get absorbed by this book and the life that Burroughs was leading. I haven't read his other autobiography about his childhood, which he provides some very interesting and scary glimpses in to, but I'm interested in reading it now.

There's a lot to be said for a writer who made a teetotaller enjoy a book about an advertising executive in rehab for alcohol addiction. This dark yet funny memoir tells it like it is, chronicling the gay protagonist's search for love, friendship and a normal life. Recommended.

Wow. Burroughs' life is...messed up. This is the story of his...addiction to alcohol (et al), how he went to rehab, and how he relapsed...but then got back on track.

I must say, this is a book that kept me wanting to read more and more. Burroughs's life is one I am sad that anyone has had to live. And yet, what I think is the most appealing about his stories is that he is not welled up in depression. He is frank and open about his feelings...and despite his faults (shallowness, alcoholism), I can't help but root him on. I want him to succeed, and I was crushed when he relapsed.

A good read, for sure.

Dry is Burroughs' memoir of nose-diving into alcoholism, going to rehab, and coming out on the other side. He writes in a way that will make you feel as if you are right there with him, knocking back three or four or five too many drinks. You can see his apartment perfectly with endless empty bottles in every nook and cranny. At first he thinks he’s not the kind of person who needs rehab. It’s for other people. Surely he can conquer this pesky little problem on his own. But then his coworkers get sick of him showing up drunk and/or hungover and they ship him off. Throughout his journey to sobriety and onward, he is also caring for his boyfriend who has AIDS. Dry is his most emotional and heart-breaking book.
