Wow!

i know i should but i really don’t care about farming & politics in 19th century russia. the rest was sooo real tho. love how levin compared his calves to other men.

Highly enjoyable, even though I found myself skimming some passages from time to time.
One of the things I arguably enjoyed the most was Levin participating in the hay harvest and loosing himself in the act of scything for 10 or so pages.
I didn't know how Anna's Story would end beforehand, so her suicide by train came as a mild surprise.
I must confess that while I didn't really care for Levin's self-debates concerning him finding his lack of faith disturbing, they weren't to bothersome to read.
Once I read this again, it will be interesting to see how the moderately old german translation that I read this time around differs from the english translation.

I loved this book. It was romantic, operatic, and heart-wrenching. The characters are vivid and nuanced which makes them seem real. I fell in love with Russia.
