This Usborne Young Reader edition was such a compact version, it took out the original voice of Leroux that it didn't feel as great as the original book. But I still love the story, even if it's just the skeletal frame. The illustrations were rich in colour and emotions that made this book an entertaining and captivating read.

I’ve always loved the musical adaptation of this book and to be perfectly honest, I always knew that this was going to be a five star read. The eerie elements combined with the slight romance have always spoke to me, and the narrative being similar to that of a ghost story just hooked me in further. I was always going to love this book and the only criticism I can think of is that the character list got a bit confusing towards the end.

by the looks of it, this is a book that i should really enjoy. however i stopped halfway through because i was bored out of my fucking mind.

and because raoul is one of the most annoying characters i've ever encountered in a book.

I didn't expect it to be written like a mystery, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I really love the issues this novel brings up about appearances and what it means to be human and it's such a great classic story that isn't read enough. I would definitely recommend it to people who like mystery type novels and Victorian literature since it very much is.
