The first half of this book was fine. A little silly, but readable. The second half—well, I eventually gave up and just skimmed to the end. I’m especially annoy by Patrick’s crisis. It seemed to come out of nowhere; it was also infuriating for two reasons: 1) if you’re going to have a meltdown about c*m on your costume, don’t wear it while having sex; and 2) I find it incredibly implausible that actors are allowed to walk off set wearing their costume. Or that Patrick wouldn’t want to take it off as soon as shooting was done for the day. I could not find it in myself to care about either of these characters after that. The rest of the book did not get any better.
Overall, the narrative was sloppy and the character development was heavy handed. Also! I still have no idea in what way Will/Grace (ugh) was supposed to be a hero. The title and tagline of the book made me expect something, but I didn’t get it. Maybe he’s supposed to be Patrick’s hero for…showing how to live authentically? I think that’s what Patrick says. But the fact that he has to say it at all for me to think that…well, that’s no good, is it?
I will not be sad to return this to the library.

What if instead of a glamorous actress and a geeky bookshop owner meeting cute in Notting Hill, an earnest but closeted superhero actor met a goofball bit-of-a-mess drag queen? What if it had the closed door (well, door ajar) style of Boyfriend Material, screwball comedy vibes, and unapologetically celebrated queerness of all flavors? You'd read it right? Well, I'd certainly read it. This was absolutely adorable. The narrator brought it to life beautifully, and I enjoyed every minute.
