This juvenile biography shares the story of the self-taught scientist who discovered the field of microbiology in the seventeenth century. Even though this illustrated chapter book is short and accessible, it is very thorough, providing the historical context, scientific background, and cultural details necessary to bring this story to life. Even as an adult, I found this to be an excellent, scholarly introduction to the topic, and I highly recommend it to readers of all ages.

A run-of-the-mill man develops a microscope. I especially loved seeing the microscopes.

I like how it uses present tense. It feels like you see the events of Leeuwenhoek's life unfold i real time. I learned more than I expected.

I've always been fascinated by Leeuwenhoek since the days of high school biology class and I wanted some easy listening on in the background while I graded that would be interesting, teach me something new, and not be too distracting. This audiobook fit the bill. It's meant for younger audiences and yes, I could definitely see a 7th grade version of myself devouring this during Drop Everything And Read class periods.
