Here's the thing: McFarlane writes books where romance is an aspect of a character's arc, not the sole point of the story. This is as much Edie and Elliot's book as it is Edie and Margot's, Edie and Meg's, Edie and Louis's, Edie and Jack's even. Even the inclusion of Hannah and Nick, whose stories were minorly intersecting but still lovely, makes this book better, more believable, and more well rounded. And as alway, McFarlane speaks truths. Her books are always beautifully written and move me. I cried. And now we are getting a sequel?!?!? 8 full years later? Gor, the luck of us.

Part of my Mhairi McFarlane backlist project :) I love her work and this was no exception. I really enjoyed going into Mhairi's backlist ahead of reading her follow-up to this one! The characters are so multi-dimensional and funny and the love interests are believable yet still aspirational. This book felt like what When Grumpy Met Sunshine was trying to be.
