Great writing, but predictable. Darkly engrossing. Enjoyed reading it, but not a book that'll particularly stand out in my memory.
Swerve was an uncomfortable thriller. I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what horror awaited me next. If you like physiological horror you should definitely give this a try.

This was a fast paced, intense read and I enjoyed the beginning with the mystery of it all. It almost felt like there was SO much action that it was hard to tell what was going on a lot of the time. The backstory to the main character was intricate, raw, and dark, but it seemed almost unnecessary in contrast with the present story.
This book was good—really, really good. I’m a huge fan of psychological suspense and Swerve is one of my favorite 2015 reads in the genre. The book has non-stop action and the suspense keeps going at a frantic pace until the very last page.
I loved the setup of Swerve. A woman is led on a wild goose chase orchestrated by a murderer who is keeping her fiancé as the prize. I liked that there wasn’t a lot of information dumping at the beginning and the action started right away. Readers are giving more background as the story progresses about Kristine and her dark history.
There was so many twists and turns in the story that it kept me on my toes. I admit some of the twists I predicted early on, but it didn’t steal away any of my enjoyment of the book. The second half of the book was such a nail-biter that I stayed up way into the night to finish reading.
I can’t really say too much without giving away the plot, but some of the elements aren’t for the faint of heart. The depictions were pretty gruesome and there was a bit of disbelief over how many terrible things could happen to one person.
I would highly recommend Swerve to readers of thrillers. I’m now a huge fan of the author and can’t wait to check out more of her books.

I actually read this book way back in May of 2015, but I somehow managed to lose track of posting the review. But mistakes can be corrected, especially in bookland.
The first thing you need to know is that I love serial killer driven plots, and the second thing you need to know is that I always hide my eyes during horror movies.
This book is not for the squeamish. It made me really uncomfortable in a lot of places, but I still loved it. My heart was pounding the entire time, and I tore through the book.
I did not see the twist coming at all, and I was just blown away. My chief complaint with these kinds of books is usually that either they are predictable or that the twist is completely nonsensical, so Swerve was a breath of fresh air.
Swerve is a solid 5/5 stars.
Thanks go to Gallery Books and NetGalley, who provided me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a ride. This book sucked me in from the first chapter. Not only do I live in the area where this book takes place, my fiancé's name is also Daniel and I work in the medical field. Talk about getting into a story. I questioned him a lot throughout my reading of this book. I'm sure he is very happy that I have finished it. With so many twist and turns I can see why she decided to call the story Swerve. This book kept me on my toes and kept me up wanting to know what would happen next. I will be recommending.
An excellently written thriller... That I'm not going to finish. I gave it a try because I love the author, but I just don't want to read a book where people are tortured and psychologically brutalized.

Well I did indeed make it through this book, but not for lack of Vicki Pettersson trying her hardest to make it a difficult read. I don't mean difficult in that I was bored or didn't like the writing, I meant that on the cover of the book right under the title where it says "A Thriller" yeah, you'll want to take those words definitely to heart.
I'm pretty sure the book literally starts off running from the very first word. It's peppered throughout with some calmer more introspective moments, but it's difficult to move away from the jarring start and ever actually feel calm while reading this book.
Vicki Pettersson did a great job at knowing when to throw in a twist or when to change direction slightly. I mean one can only run on adrenaline for so long before they start to wear down. Just like that, whenever I would think it was time for character(s) to change tactics or for Pettersson to move something along she would, and I was exceedingly grateful for that.
I will say that I don't think the book was revolutionary in terms of the thriller genre. I wasn't too surprised by how many of the twists unfolded, but I was definitely invested in how things unfolded because let me tell you knowing our main character(s) were going to make it out alive (I won't even mention unscathed because that's not gonna happen) is not an absolute.
I was glad to see Vicki Pettersson step out from her paranormal / urban fantasy writing and really give us a pretty great book in a different genre. It's a fast edge-of-your-seat read and if I could I probably would have stayed up all night to finish it. It's a very driven book with a heroine you want to fight and succeed.
If you're already a fan of Vicki Pettersson, I think you'll like her foray into thrillers. If you're a fan of the thriller, there's a lot to like about this book. If you're looking for a book that will keep you up at night, and will stay with you after you finish it, Swerve fits the bill. I look forward to reading what's next for Vicki Pettersson in whatever genre she chooses.

Well, this one starts off so dramatically and begins the wild ride that is the rest of this novel! I did find this novel a bit gory, but I really enjoy horror movies, so the gore is a plus for me! This novel is really fast paced and I adored the different idea behind this one and the different twist! I didn’t know who the bad guy was here, but it is revealed a little early for me. I did find the ending kept dragging out, but it was still action packed like the rest of the novel. It was overall a very quick and satisfying read!
