4.15 AVERAGE

I tried to read this slowly, to savor every word: even sick I failed horribly. I couldn't stop reading, just as I experienced with all of the other books in the Fever World. Karen is a master of imagery, character development, and plot. Once again, she ties the strings in ways I could not have imagined. I laughed, cried, and threw my kindle more than once; I forgot to eat, sleep, and drink - all high praise in my eyes, though I would not recommend combining a few of those.

Reading the full fever series might not be necessary to like the book, but I feel like you need all of the prior knowledge and emotion to truly love it. You don't want just one loop on a roller coaster - you want the climb, the drop, the twists & turns, and multiple loops...then to get off and do it all again. Enjoy the whole ride and read the whole series, if you haven't already.

Karen Moning continues to blow me away with this series. It is complex and wild and strange but I haven’t lost a single important character or plot thread. I continue to be amazed by the plot twists and the amazing concepts she throws at the reader. She makes sure everything is possible within the world she built - she plays by her own rules - but she still manages to do the wildest, most incredible things. This series is a feast for the mind and imagination. I still can’t believe they’re in the romance section? I get they have romance-book-like sex scenes in them but they are far more vast than that. I feel like they should be in the fantasy section 😂

I’m so blown away by this. It’s everything I wanted and I’m absolutely ecstatic to find out what happens next. The scope of this story has inspired me more than I can express. I missed Mac this book, but it was nice to see Barrons for a bit, and oh God......Dani O’Malley has grown so much and become exactly what I never knew I needed. I love her.

I can’t wait to read the final book and then reread the series over again a hundred times!! I love these books with all my heart.

Definitely not my favorite in the series. I didn’t like Iced either though. Why is R suddenly such a girl. So lame. I missed Barron’s and Mac. Team Mac forever!! Can we please go back to them.

For anyone semi-familiar with the Fever series, this one is mostly told in Dani's perspective. There's none of Mac's POV in this book.

Gah, my heart! Dani and Ryodan are the best, and how Moning crafts their story and pulls everything together, the artistry she demonstrates is beautiful.

Papa Roach was especially disgusting in this book, his initial chapter so vivid I almost didn't want to read it all. Bugs and anything to do with getting inside people are likely to make me gag - yeah, I can't deal.

I love how Dani's character has evolved over the series - if you once thought she was an annoying non-necessity, hopefully this book will clear that up for ya. Many things about Ryodan (and consequently Barrons) are unveiled in this beauty.

There were parts that dragged or were overly descriptive, but as a whole High Voltage is a masterpiece. The perfect ending if KMM decides not to continue, or the perfect opportunity to start a spin-off series.

3.5 stars.

probably the most cheesy of all of the books in this series, but damn if I wasn't so freaking happy about that ending.

3.5

me, in 2011 after reading the first five books in a week: oh wow, an UF series with proper, self-contained arcs and won't go on forever because of $$$? amazing

me, in 2018 knowing that KMM will keep writing more books: ahahahahahahahhahahhahahahaha

as for this book, *SPOILER-ish* it could have been worse. at times the writing was juvenile (what's with KMM's obsession with inspirational~ acronyms??) and some of the prose (even the dialogues) was mostly trying to be quotable quotes™ edition. but once the plot got going i was back to being invested in these characters. i love dani and ryodan's dyanmic. but the ending was so rushed. i need more??? of them trying to navigate being partners. more of barrons and ryodan being bros. and of the Nine in general. one of them is a woman?? considering all the inconclusive threads in the overall story, i have resolved myself to the fact that KMM is going to be writing 394893 more books in this series (and i will read all of them ofc YIKES) so can one of them be about the Nine? tell me more about the tribunal mentioned in one of the deleted scenes.

p.s. i complained about being over mac and her drama in my review for the last book and bless her presence was only relegated to a text message. excellent.

"I missed the way your mind works. How you’re willing to make the difficult decisions few people are willing to face, the ones that cost a piece of your soul. How you suffer no hesitation acting on those decisions, despite their price, and each time you hit breaking point, you come up with a new way to put yourself back together again. How you never stop caring, no matter how badly the world treats you, and bloody hell, this world has treated you abominably. How, despite the war you eternally wage between your brain and your heart, you possess the finest of both intellect and emotion I’ve ever seen. You dazzle me, Dani O’Malley. You bloody fucking dazzle me. Top or bottom?"
