As with "Such a Fun Age," Kiley Reid's writing is clever and precisely observational in a very canny way. She has a naturalistic way of weaving race and class into her storylines in ways that the characters themselves seem unaware of. She gets in the head of characters who are unaware or self-delusional about how much power they wield in a situation, and shows how they justify its use to themselves.
"Come and Get It" takes place on a college campus and shows the unintentional ripple effects of various interactions between a visiting professor secretly publishing "Money Diary" type articles based on her observations of students; several well to do students wrapped up in their own problems; and one financially hustling RA. The best lines go to the peanut gallery of the RA's snarky queer friends.
I think that "Such a Fun Age" held together a bit more cohesively, as this felt at times like disconnected storylines - especially that of Kennedy, who is intentionally isolated into her own storyline to reflect her isolation as a lonely transfer student, but it can be effective and still not particularly engaging to read. The book also seemed to get a little cartoonish at the end. I was left not quite sure what Reid was trying to say with some of the storylines.

This book ended up being unexpectedly triggering to me which I did not anticipate after the lightness of Such a Fun Age but I am glad to have read it.
